Long Time, No See

Greetings, Party People,
Yes, I know. It's been a very long time since I blogged here. Life has been...hectic as of late. But I'm back now, and hope to continue on a more regular, bi-weekly basis, as my writing, mothering, and wifery schedules allow.
Anyway, I'm in Alaska now, for those of you who didn't now. (Yes, there are other Black folks here. Just not many.) The military apparently wanted to send me as far away as possible from home, while keeping us from seeing Europe or Asia. Ah, the Department of Defense.
So, while I try to find my way around, and make our smallish quarters feel like home, I write on. To escape the stress of this move, to release my pent up creativity... to meet my deadlines. Yep, now that I'm represented by a bona-fide literary agent, I have deadlines to meet. I just sent in some work to her on the Queen City Gents series. Pray for a quick and sizable sale on it, I've been working pretty hard.
As for Alaska, it's both beautiful and maddening. The constant sunlight interrupts my beauty sleep, and there isn't a Cracker Barrel to be had at any price. Sweet tea can only be found at McDonald's, and even there it's touted as 'new.' But the mountains rise from the mist, and the water is an endless tableau of blue.
My good freinds in the lower 48 are welcome to visit me. And if you do, for the love of Pete, bring me some Chick-fil-A.

Classy and Sassy on the Tundra,
Kianna

Setting Sail for Self-Improvement

Hi, all,
I know. It's been two whole weeks since I've blogged. I've been super busy, and a little crazy, because of this assignment to Alaska. To be quite honest, I'm still not done freaking out, and won't be for a while. But I needed to update you, the reader, on the adventures I'm braving.
Anyway, it doesn't look like there's a way out of this assignment, and frankly, I'm done looking for one. I have to rent my house (I've had quite a few inquiries already) arrange transportation of our things, and try to navigate the system to make sure my son gets the services he needs on the frozen tundra.
I'm still very stressed ( I told one of the ladies at the relocation/reassignment office on post that I'm suffering from Army-induced anxiety,) but I've come to a decision. If I've got to go up there, I have to make the best of it.
When I come back, I'll be just a few months shy of the big 3-0. (This is a three year tour.) And I realized that I want to change my life. I'm leaving behind the silliness, and the stupid decisions of my twenties, and becoming a grown woman, to the tenth power.
No more letting people walk over me. It's time to assert myself, take care of my own needs above all else, lose weight, and generally become more comfortable with who I am.
And possibly learning how to hunt. That's also on my list of things.
The point is, when I come back, I plan on being a better me. So, look out for the new, improved, tastes great, less filling Kianna, coming in 2012.
Keep it classy and sassy.
-Kianna

Here We Go Again!

Hi, all
So this week, we're suddenly back on orders to go to Alaska. We don't know when, but they were originally expecting us April 10 (yes, less than 30 days from now) and we are attempting to get an extension (which would give us till May 10). I still have yet to see actual, in the flesh orders, I'm just going on what Hubby's telling me. I think it's safe to say that the Army could care less that we have lived in the house we just bought in June for less than a year, have no equity, and no potential renters. Our credit rating, and my sanity, apparently mean nothing to them.
All I know is that we can't afford to keep two households. Every dime of housing allowance we would get in Alaska would go right to the housing office. Also, since the folks at Ft. Richardson refused to send us info until we had orders, I have no idea where we are going to live. I don't want to live too far from base, because we won't know our way around as it is. But without the maps and other pertinent facts we should have been provided by now, I haven't a clue where we'll go.
I an beyond angry, and way past frustrated. We never got orders because of some clerical error, and now they threaten my hubby with AWOL if he tries to get out of this? Why are they so bound and determined to make my life difficult? On top of it all, they are forcing him to extend his enlistment by four months. Fantastic, four more months in Army purgatory. It's official: I totally hate them, and their backward ways.
So now, its off to the frozen tundra. For me, and unknown author, I'm sure it will be damn near impossible to sell my book to a bunch of folks who don't know me from Adam. At this monumental time, when my dream of publication is finally coming true, the US Army decides to snatch me away from my home, and deny me the joy of sharing my accomplishment with the people who mean most to me.
And they don't give a damn.

Slightly less classy and a whole lot more sassy,
Kianna
